Strengths of The SIOP Model
Why Use SIOP:
While I am not tied to any one method of lesson planning, I do like the Understanding By Design format since it is quite easy to plan entire units of curriculum from desired outcomes to engagement/activities to expectations to materials required to lesson delivery to lesson objectives. While I think that I can eventually effectively implement for all my students at Deburgos Middle School, my colleagues prefer the SIOP method.
The SIOP® Model for Instruction & Assessment is most often associated with ELLs but in fact works with all students. When implemented successfully SIOP® has demonstrably been able to:
At some point, I am likely to integrate the two as I have often done with presenting content before. Hopefully use of SIOP will improve my choices for student assessment and student performance.

- Improve academic content skills and language skills
- Deliver results aligned to district objectives
- Prepare students to become college and career read
