A great description of why I believe educational technology is instrumental in the classroom. ILT makes streamlining all the facets of teaching & learning much easier so that I can focus on meeting student needs.
I.B. Integrating technology into curricular planning and instructional design including:
• research on and evaluation of existing and emerging technologies,
• use of instructional theories and teaching models,
• learner characteristics, developmental levels, and individual differences as related to
instructional technology resources and modifications,
• access and use telecommunications for information sharing, remote information
access and retrieval, and multi-media/hypermedia publishing,
• electronic mail and Internet resources for communications and instructional support
Research on and evaluation of existing and emerging technologies,
- While serving as a participant/observer with the MESA Saturday Robotics Academy, several students and I independently researched 3D printers & compared our findings. We suggested the Phoenix 3D printer - with a larger print bed, faster than average print time, and favorable price of $400 – to be the best buy for STEM programs.
- To more effective teach the A.L.I.C.E., I explored online courses, textbooks, and other resources before deciding to go with Carnegie Mellon’s Computer Science Student Network that also links to other great resources from Duke University & the University of Texas.
- Viewed Edmodo webinar to better exploit its use at Deburgos Middle School for my 7th grade science class and LiveS.T.R.E.A.M. afterschool club to document lessons, organize & share resources, and communicate with parents.
- Created a Youtube Channel highlighting educational technology
- Created a Game Based Learning Wiki
Use of instructional theories and teaching models,
- For EdPysch 8639 I prepared a brief youtube video comparing 3 common teaching models
- At Deburgos Middle School, my students will be using surveys created with google forms to evaluate my teaching including classroom organization, management, technology implementation, need for higher order thinking skills, and overall presentation.
- For ED 5888 Student Teaching Seminar, I used the Understanding By Design & 5E teaching models to create a cross curricular unit, Ancient Cities, that has online components such as virtual field trips, digital storyboards, and interviews of famous, impactful Greco-Roman citizens.
- For MGRE 5102 Literacies & Learners I published a Youtube video featuring a lesson plan on Alice in Wonderland Chapter 1 “Down the Rabbit Hole” that includes online text, audiotext, and numerous activities – many of which are online.
Learner characteristics, developmental levels, and individual differences as related to
instructional technology resources and modifications,
Over the past two years, I have volunteered or worked for MESA, Stemnasium Learning Academy, and attended numerous workshops and webinars to learn programs/curriculum such as A.L.I.C.E., L.A.S.S.O., Bootstrap, Robot C, & App Inventor in order to present STEM content not only in multiple ways but as observable behaviors/actions rather than abstract vocabulary.
To complete this competency I also did the following:

To complete this competency I also did the following:
- At Leeds Middle School, I utilized NBC Learn’s the Science of Football to help 7th grade boys better understand key physics concepts.
- For the SPED 5111 Take Home Final I demonstrated via a case study that incorporated the Universal Design for Learning, Response to Intervention, & Differentiated Instructionhow photogalleries made with Google Images can be used to teach vocabulary to all students.
- For MGRE 5102 Literacies & Learners I demonstrated how digital storyboards can be used to tell stories and/or make movies in order to help all students express their thoughts & ideas.
Access and use telecommunications for information sharing, remote information
access and retrieval, and multi-media/hypermedia publishing,
For the upcoming school year at Deburgos Middle School, I will be using Weebly with the Blendspace app for my 7th grade science classroom & LiveS.T.R.E.A.M. afterschool club to:

For the upcoming school year at Deburgos Middle School, I will be using Weebly with the Blendspace app for my 7th grade science classroom & LiveS.T.R.E.A.M. afterschool club to:
- Streamline parent/student access to grades/assignments
- Organize & share resources within my teacher networks
- Presentations to potential funders/community stakeholders
- To document project based learning & service learning projects
To complete this competency I also did the following:
- For the 2014 Stemnasium Learning Academy Summer Camp, we had children create gmail accounts in order to store, share, & retrieve mobile apps or video games made with App Inventor
- For the 2014 MESA Saturday Robotics Academy we used Google Docs to store each team’s Engineering Design Notebook
- For the 2014 MESA Saturday Robotics Academy we started a Google Plus Community to document progress on Rube Goldberg machines, building Lego NXT robots, and prosthetic arm prototypes
- For the 2013 MESA Summer Camp we utilized Dropbox to store & retrieve the L.A.S.S.O. curriculum units
Electronic mail and Internet resources for communications and instructional support
- Edmodo/BlendSpace (see above)
- For the 2014 Stemnasium Learning Academy Summer Camp, we had children create gmail accounts in order to store, share, & retrieve mobile apps or video games made with App Inventor
- For the 2014 Stemnasium Learning Academy Summer Camp we used MIT App Inventor to teach children how to build mobile apps & video games.
- For the 2014 MESA Saturday Robotics Academy we started a Google Plus Community& used Google Doc (see above)
- Utilizing DonorsChoice to help principal initiate afterschool STEM club at Deburgos Middle School
- Employed Basecamp with 2014 MESA Saturday Robotics Academy instructors to lesson plan
- To plan the 2014 Stemnasium Learning Academy Summer Camp we utilized conference calls & gmail
